HUNTINGTON – Linda A. Harney, 75, Huntington, died at 10:20 p.m. June 7, 2016, at Parkview Huntington Hospital.
She was born July 10, 1940, in Andrews, to J. Claude and Sarah Miller Garretson. On June 25, 1960, in Andrews, she married Kenneth L. Harney, who preceded her in death Nov. 11, 2004.
She was a 1961 graduate of Andrews High School and earned a bachelor of science degree in education from Huntington University and a master’s degree from Ball State University. She taught for the Huntington County Community School Corporation, Horace Mann Elementary, and at Huntington Catholic School. She worked at Wabash Technologies, Huntington, as the office secretary for 20 years. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Huntington, where she taught kindergarten Sunday school for 20 years. She was a member of VFW Post 2689 Ladies Auxiliary, in which she was former secretary-treasurer, and she was a member of Huntington Genealogy Club. She enjoyed bowling and traveling.
Survivors include three daughters: Renee (and spouse Tony) Downing, New Berlin, Wis.; Lisa (and spouse Charles) Bremer, Claypool; Julie Fields, Huntington; a brother, Michael Garretson, Mishawaka; a sister, Claudia (and spouse Harry) Machall, Roanoke; five grandchildren: Craig Tackett, Brandon Tackett, Kenyon Green, Branson Green, Preston Downing; and five great-grandchildren. Her parents preceded her in death.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Bailey-Love Mortuary, Huntington, with the Rev. Raymond Scribner officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Huntington.
Calling is one hour prior to the service Monday and from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. VFW Post #2689 Ladies Auxiliary evening services will be at 5 p.m. Sunday immediately following calling.
