NORTH MANCHESTER - LaVeta M. Immel, 91, of North Manchester, died at 4:55 a.m. March 31, 2010, in Timbercrest Healthcare Center, North Manchester.

She was born Feb. 5, 1919, in New Paris, to Everett E. and Mayme Smoker Miller. On Dec. 14, 1940, she married the Rev. Woodrow A. Immel, who died Nov. 21, 2003.

She was a pastor's wife, serving with her husband for more than 40 years in the ministry at Brethren Churches in North Manchester, Milford and New Paris. She was a musician, who used her talents in service to the Lord as a pianist, organist and choir director. She assisted her husband in the ministry as church secretary, and worked for 30 years at the North Manchester News-Journal as a typesetter. She was a member of First Brethren Church, North Manchester. She graduated New Paris High School in 1937 during which time she was national champion on the marimba. She attended Goshen College. She was a member of the Women's Missionary Society and was past vice president of the National Women's Missionary Society. She was a former member and accompanist for the Wabash County Choral Club.

Surviving are two sons, Charles A. (and spouse Nancy) Immel, New Paris, and Keith W. (and spouse Linda) Immel, North Manchester; a daughter, Carolyn (and spouse Charles) Bame, Flagstaff, Ariz.; a brother, Rex W. Miller, New Paris; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Brethren Church, North Manchester, with Pastor Kurt Stout officiating. A committal service will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at New Paris Cemetery.

Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to service Saturday at the church.
