Katie Caroline Hoffert, 19, Pierceton, passed away at 7:37 p.m. Nov. 1, 2014, after a long struggle with cystic fibrosis at her aunt’s residence surrounded by family and friends. She was born May 22, 1995, at Minot Air Force Base, Minot, N.D., to Peter Michael Hoffert and Wonnie Lynn Shafer. She was a loving daughter, granddaughter, niece and cousin. She was an avid reader and video game player, and she loved campfires. She moved to Kosciusko County March 2011 from Bismarck, N.D., and was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Warsaw. She will be lovingly remembered by her mother, Wonnie L. Shafer, Pierceton; her father, Peter Michael (and spouse Tammy) Hoffert, Minot; a sister, Chelsi (and spouse Paul) Stewart, Shelbyville; a brother, Michael Joseph Hoffert, Minot; grandfather, Ben (and spouse Karla) Shafer, Mancelona, Mich.; an aunt, Stefanie Shafer, Warsaw; an uncle, Greg Shafer, Warsaw; three cousins: Sierra Lantz, Pierceton; Chris (and spouse Loretta) Shafer, Rochester; and Shelby (and spouse Adam) Miller, Warsaw. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Linda Shafer and Pete and Caroline Hoffert; an aunt, Bonnie Misener; and her cousin, Lyndsay Sanchez. A memorial service will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, with Bishop Jeff Walters officiating.
