Ivan C. Oberlin, 72, of 2805 E. Prestwick Road, Winona Lake, died at 2:30 p.m. Feb. 7, 2010, in Grace Village Retirement Community-Rehab, Winona Lake.
He was born June 28, 1937, in Fort Wayne, to Lloyd Arthur and Faye Luellen Whitbey Oberlin. On Sept. 6, 1958, in Fort Wayne, he married Janet Marie Wolfrum, who survives.
Ivan and Janet came to Warsaw from Fort Wayne in 1968. He graduated from New Haven High School and International Business College. He served two years with the U.S. Army in Fort Lewis, Wash., and Bamberg, Germany, with the 35th Artillery from 1960-62, and was honorably discharged. He retired as vice president and finance from United Telephone Co. after 39 years of service. He was a member of the Sprint Community Relations Team; an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Warsaw; and a member of the board of directors and coach of Warsaw Little League Baseball for 22 years. He was awarded "Friend of Youth" by the Breakfast Optimist Club in 1985, as well as serving on the board of directors of Kosciusko Home Care & Hospice Inc. Besides volunteering, he enjoyed family, gardening, bridge and traveling.
Also surviving are two sons, Gregory Mark (and spouse Teresa) Oberlin, Warsaw, and Bradley James Oberlin, Etna Green; a daughter, Julie Beth (and spouse Tim) Patten, Warsaw; two grandchildren, Kayla and Justin Oberlin; two sisters, Evelyn Sutton, Waterloo, and Lois Harman, Auburn; and two brothers, James (and spouse Rosie) Oberlin, Fort Wayne, and Norman (and spouse Dottie) Oberlin, Auburn. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and two brothers-in-law.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1720 E. Center St., Warsaw, with Pastor Stuart Floyd officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.
