INDIANAPOLIS – Harry R. Dewey, 81, of Indianapolis, died Aug. 5, 2011.
He was born April 14, 1930, in Omaha, Neb., to Harry and Helen Poe Dewey.
He graduated from Omaha North High School in 1948 and was a U.S. Army veteran, stationed in Japan, and spoke fluent Japanese during the Korean War. He was a planning estimator and surveyor for the Civil Service At Kearny, Neb.; Fort Huachuca, Arizona; Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indianapolis; and The Jefferson Proving Grounds, Madison, Ind.; and retired in Barstow, Calif., in 1995. He also worked for Clyde Williams Co., Indianapolis. He spent time at Hill Lake, Warsaw, where he belonged to the American Legion. He was a Cub Scout Master for Pack 421.
Surviving are a daughter, Pam Bastian; two sons, Paul and John (and spouse Kimberly) Dewey; three grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. A memorial service will be at 6 p.m. today at Lawrence United Methodist Church, Indianapolis.
