BREMEN - Glenn H. Kintzel, 84, passed away Aug. 31, 2009, in his residence.
He was born in Saskatchewan, Canada, to James Roy and Daisy M. Darlison Kintzel.
He attended Atwood High School before entering the U.S. Army. He served in the 351st Regiment in Italy during World War II. He was captured and sent to an Italian POW camp. Near the end of the war, he escaped, was captured again and sent to a German POW camp. His brother, PFC Leonard Kintzel, was part of the unit that liberated him. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. He retired from Coppes, Nappanee, and was a member of Carpenters Union Local 413 for more than 50 years.
Surviving are a daughter, Cynthia Boals, Nappanee; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters: Mavis Michalski, South Bend; Norma Creighton, Warsaw; and Sandra Dickerson, Syracuse; and a sister-in-law, Margery Adams Kintzel, Atwood. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Leonard Kintzel, Atwood.
Services were Thursday at Palmer Funeral Home, Lakeville. A military graveside service was held at Etna Green Cemetery.
