MONTPELIER – Glen Olen Gilbert, 74, of Chester Township, Wells County, passed away at 9:28 a.m. Oct. 3, 2011, in Bluffton Regional Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 29, 1937, in Wells County, to Olen and Blanche “Waldene” Booher Gilbert, who preceded him in death. On Dec. 23, 1963, in Van Buren, he married Eda E. Maggard, who died Nov. 26, 2010.

A lifetime resident of Chester Township, Wells County, he was a self-employed electrician and former owner of Gilbert’s Gasway Service Station at the intersection of Ind. 3 and 218. He was a member of the Chester Township Volunteer Fire Department, the Indiana Volunteer Fire Association and the Barbee Lake Association. He enjoyed spending his summer months at Little Barbee Lake. He attended First United Methodist Church, Montpelier.

Surviving are a daughter, Vicki (and Mike Collins) Haviland, Petroleum; a son, Michael D. Gilbert, Chester Township; and a grandson, Cory Wm. Haviland, Petroleum.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Walker & Glancy Funeral Home, 109 W. Windsor St., Montelier, with the Rev. John Bellante officiating. Burial will be in Brookside Memorial Park, Montpelier.

Calling is from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Members of the Chester Township Fire Department will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home to pay their respects.
