AKRON - Dewight Manns, 59, of 8520 E. CR 250S, Akron, died at 7:10 a.m. April 26, 2009, in his residence. He was in failing health for a year.

He was born April 4, 1950, in Rochester, to Bradie and Oma Hackworth Manns. On Sept. 1, 1973, at Grace United Methodist Church, Rochester, he married Carolyn S. Middaugh, who survives.

He was a machinist at Sealed Power, Rochester, and Medtronic, Warsaw. He was a 1969 Akron High School graduate and a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Vietnam War. He, along with his wife, attended Sweetwater Assembly of God, North Manchester. He enjoyed playing the guitar and singing.

Also surviving are his mother, Oma Manns, Akron; a daughter, Carissa (and spouse Jacob) Boomershine, Craigville; a son, Charlie (and spouse Jennifer) Manns, Greenville, S.C.; four grandchildren, Mason, Garrett, Elise and Kate; two sisters, Dee (and spouse Joe) Dague, Kewanna, and Diann (and spouse Wayne) Grube, Rochester; and a brother, Dewayne (and spouse Carolyn) Manns, Yantis, Texas. He was preceded in death by his father, Bradie Manns, who died July 4, 2004.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron, with Pastor Chad McAtee officiating. Burial will be in Akron Cemetery.

Calling is from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
