David Paul Frettinger

ROCHESTER – David Paul Frettinger, 84, of Rochester, died at 11:15 p.m. Aug. 12, 2012, in his residence.

He was born June 9, 1928, in Monon, to John M. and Della Goodwin Frettinger. On July 14, 1963, in Niles, Mich., he married Shirley Anne Kelly, who survives.

He graduated from Kewanna High School in 1947;  attended Frankfort College for a year; earned a major in Bible and a bachelor’s degree in education from Bethel College; and earned a master’s in education from Indiana University. He also received a bachelor’s degree in divinity from Grace Theological Seminary.

He was a farmer, a pastor and a teacher. He taught 31 years in the South Bend School Corp. and taught fifth and sixth grades at Maple Lane School, Stuckey Elementary, Navarre Elementary and the Culver Community School System. He pastored at Paul’s Chapel Church, near Winamac, and Bruce Lake Community Church, north of Kewanna. He raised hogs, sheep and cows. He and his wife wintered in Florida and Texas for a number of years.

Also surviving are four children: Steven (and spouse Chere) Frettinger, Bluffton; Nancy (and spouse Tony) Kirgizs, Midland, Mich.; Jonathan (and spouse Lori) Frettinger, Uniondale; and Mark (and spouse Deana) Frettinger, Rochester; and 15 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sisters and five brothers.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Good Family Funeral Home, Rochester. Burial will be in Kewanna Cemetery.

Calling is from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to the service Thursday at the funeral home.
