NAPPANEE – Dave Berger, 68, of 27601 CR 50, Nappanee, died unexpectedly of natural causes at 8:20 a.m. Nov. 22, 2011, in the emergency room at Elkhart General Hospital.
He was born Nov. 26, 1942, in Goshen, to Harold and Ruth Chamberlin Berger. On Jan. 25, 1976, in Nappanee, he married Karen Mikel, who survives.
A lifetime are resident, he was a 1961 graduate of Nappanee High School and of Purdue University with an agriculture economics degree. He continued to take agriculture classes through Purdue and their extension during his farming career. He served in the U.S. Army for the NATO Forces in Germany. He was a lifetime member of Nappanee United Methodist Church and a member of the Nappanee Early Bird Kiwanis. He was a van driver for Amish Acres.
Also surviving are two sons, Mikel (and spouse Jessica) Berger, West LaFayette, and David (and spouse Michelle) Berger Jr., Lancaster, Calif.; a grandson; and two brothers, Don (and spouse Rita) Berger, Wakarusa, and Bob (and spouse Maria) Berger, South Bend.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Nappanee United Methodist Church with the Rev. Linda Craig and Dave’s brother-in-law, John Hedgegaard, officiating. Burial will be in Union Center Cemetery.
Calling is from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.
