NAPPANEE – Charles J. “Chuck” Mather, 77, of 902 E. John St., Nappanee, died unexpectedly of natural causes at 2:54 p.m. March 10, 2012, in the emergency room at Elkhart General Hospital.

He was born Feb. 11, 1935, in Middlebury, to Huston Defrees and Mildred Murial Conner Mather. On Sept. 3, 1999, in Nappanee, he married Audrey Kemmerer-Brich, who survives.

He graduated from Middlebury High School and Michigan State University. He moved to Nappanee in 1995. He worked in sales for Georgia Pacific, PETCO, Diamond LeBelle Roofing Co. and RainGuard, Goshen. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in intelligence in Germany and for four years in Europe. He attended Nappanee United Methodist Church. He was a former Middlebury Town Council member. He served as a Scout master and was an Eagle Scout.

Also surviving are three sons, Michael (and spouse Jacy) Mather-Henderson, Southern Texas; David LaClair and Robert (and spouse Brenda) Mather, all of Rockford, Mich.; two daughters, Cindy (and spouse Chris) Curtis, Rockford, and Becky (and spouse Church) Emery, Pendelton, Ore.; a stepson, Chad Brich, Nappanee; a stepdaughter, Kerry (and spouse Jeff) Prugh, Elkhart; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, a brother and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Nappanee United Methodist Church officiated by the Rev. Linda Craig and with military rites. Cremation will follow.

Calling is from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, and one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.
