AKRON - Betty C. Hartman, 84, formerly of Akron and Rochester, went home to be with the Lord and Savior and her husband at 7:01 p.m. Feb. 21, 2010, at Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester, where she resided.
She was born Aug. 4, 1925, in Marshall County, to Howard Ray and Mabel Hepler Kinney. On Feb. 24, 1946, she married Gail R. Hartman, who died Dec. 28, 2001.
She was a homemaker and in her earlier years worked at Heckman Bindery, North Manchester, and Hart Schaffner and Marx, Rochester. She shared her cake-baking talents by making many birthday cakes and beautiful wedding cakes for years. She graduated from Burket High School. She played the organ and enjoyed sewing. She and her husband loved to fish together in the local area as well as in Michigan and Wisconsin. They also enjoyed there time in Florida together in the winters. She was a member of Athens United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Kathy (and spouse David) Day, Akron; two sons, Reggie (and spouse Randena) Hartman, Warsaw, and Larry (and spouse Penny) Hartman, Larkspur, Colo.; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and four sisters: Helen Whetstone, Mentone; Valoyce (and spouse Bob) Hendrick, Greentown; Connie (and spouse John) Howard, Pierceton; and Bonnie (and spouse Charles) Brallier, Silver Lake. She was preceded in death by her husband; a granddaughter, Kimberly Day; and a sister, Katherine Kinney.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, with the Rev. Doris Smith officiating. Burial will be in Akron Cemetery.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
