NAPPANEE - Bennie "Ben" Murphy, 80, of 552 Broad St., Nappanee, died at 8:45 p.m. Aug. 22, 2008, in Miller's Merry Manor, Syracuse. He battled two types of cancer for the last year.

He was born April 19, 1928, in Culver, to William and Lorena Riggins Murphy. On Feb. 5, 1954, he married Betty Mishler, who survives.

Moving to Nappanee in February 1953, he was an electric lineman for NIPSCO for 34 years. He was a World War II Navy veteran and received a Purple Heart while serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of Nappanee American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Culver and Nappanee.

Also surviving are two sons, Mike Murphy, Nappanee, and Tim Murphy, Atwood; and eight grandchildren.

A memorial service followed by a graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Bremen Cemetery with a military graveside service by members of Nappanee American Legion. There will be cremation.

Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, is in charge of arrangements.
