SYRACUSE - Avis J. Gross, 70, Syracuse, died at 11:08 a.m. Feb.17, 2011, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.

She was born on Feb. 10, 1941, in Crown Point, to Walter F. and Hazel M. Benner Graff. On Oct. 6, 1962, in Warsaw, she married Charles W. "Sonny" Gross Jr., who survives.

She was a lifetime Milford and Syracuse area resident. She attended Milford Public Schools and was a homemaker. She was a member of Grace Bible Baptist Church, New Paris, and Gideon's Auxiliary, Goshen.

Also surviving are six daughters: Dana (and spouse Les) Ridgeway, Amy (and spouse Don) Ritter, all of Milford; Shirley (and spouse Joel) Wallenbeck, Leah Gross, all of Syracuse; Rebekah (and spouse Matt) Gilbert Ligonier; Joyce (and spouse Jeff) Gilbert, Wawaka; two sons, Paul Gross, Syracuse, and Michael (and spouse Heather) Gross of Bowie, Texas; three sisters: Lorie (and spouse Carl) Wheeler, Millersburg; Bonnie Johnson, and Miriam (and spouse Wayne) Orten all of Syracuse; one brother, Dennis (and spouse Doris) Graff, Basehor, Kan.; and 20 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sisters and seven brothers.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Owen Family Funeral Home, Syracuse, with the Rev. John Dicken officiating. Burial will follow in Syracuse Cemetery.

Calling is from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
