WARSAW AT EAST NOBLE
Because of who he has returning from a team that nearly advanced to the state meet last year, Warsaw boys cross country coach Jim Mills has high expectations for this season.
WINONA LAKE – The Grace College men’s tennis team is hoping to lean on experience in the lineup this season. Eight members return from last year’s squad, led by two seniors, bringing eagerness to head coach Larry Schuh.
SYRACUSE – It took a while for Manchester to get used to the new artifical turf at Warrior Field. But once the Lady Squires did, they played their usual strong defensive game and won 1-0 over host Wawasee Tuesday night.

The way Warsaw volleyball coach Rick Ashmore saw it, being swept Monday night had more to do with what his Lady Tiger didn't do than what Homestead did do.
SYRACUSE – Just as a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down, a win helps a team begin to appreciate the hard work it puts in to get a victory. While Wawasee’s three-set sweep of Lakeland in a non-conference volleyball match wasn’t stellar, it’s better than the alternative.
AKRON – Tippecanoe Valley used a pair of three-set wins in singles play to earn a 3-2 non-conference boys tennis victory over visiting John Glenn Monday evening.
WINONA LAKE – Excitement surrounds the Grace College men’s soccer team heading into the 2017 season.

To wrap up the opening weekend of the 2017 season, Grace College’s volleyball team earned two sweeps on Saturday. The Lady Lancers (3-1) took down Robert Morris and IU East in straight sets at the Forester Invitational. In the opening game, Grace’s defense dominated the Eagles (0-4). Robert Morris was held to a .038 hitting percentage as a team, and the Lady Lancers earned eight block points in the three sets. Grace had 15 more kills and 15 more digs in the match, led by 13 kills from Kelsee Zuidema and 13 digs from Sara Miller. The Lady Lancers had 15 kills on a .333 percentage in the first set and 12 kills in each of the final two sets. In the third set, Grace had 12 kills and just two errors in a dominant 25-15 win.
Lady Tigers Fall To Hamilton Southeastern; Cougar Soccer Wins
To kick off the 2017 season, Grace College’s volleyball team split two matches at the Forester Invitational. Alexa Hill’s historic 60-assist performance lifted the Lady Lancers past Brescia in Friday’s late game. Grace used Hill’s 60 assists — the most by a Grace player in the past decade — to come back and beat Brescia in five sets. The Lady Lancers found themselves in a jam, trailing 2-1 against Brescia. Grace dropped a narrow 25-22 scoreline in the opener before leveling the match with a 25-14 victory in the second game. The Bearcats gained an edge with a dramatic 27-25 win in the third, a game which saw 20 ties.
Grace College’s women's soccer team kicked off the 2017 campaign with a clash against NCAA Division I foe Valparaiso University on Friday night, falling 3-0. The Grace defense withstood constant pressure from the Crusaders in the first half, absorbing 22 shots to keep the score level at halftime. Senior All-American goalkeeper Abby Schue was called upon early and often as she made nine saves in the first half and 15 for the match. The Lady Lancers (0-1) held strong well into the second half, until the Crusaders broke through on a rebound shot in the 57th minute to take a 1-0 lead. That scoreline didn't hold long as Valparaiso netted two goals in quick succession over the next eight minutes to take a commanding 3-0 lead.
Grace College’s men’s golf team enjoyed a successful season last year under head coach Denny Hepler. In 2017-18, Hepler’s Lancers hope to replicate that success with a young but experienced roster. The Lancers reached the NCCAA National Championships last season for the first time in 17 years. Grace went on to finish fourth in the national tournament.
