Lady Tigers Edge Wawasee, Memorial In NLC Golf

ELKHART – Warsaw’s Delaney Wihebrink came up big, shooting a 43 and winning medalist honors at Christiana Creek Golf Club. She led the Warsaw Lady Tigers to a pair of Northern Lakes Conference girls wins Monday.

Warsaw’s score of 202 was just enough to edge out Wawasee at 205. Wawasee got one win over Elkhart Memorial at 218.

Madelyn Ray had a 52 for Warsaw, with Grayson Kilburn at 53, Miriam Hagg at 54 and Izzy Ray at 58.

Wawasee was paced by Zoe White at 48  and Belle Bruner at 50. Jadison Rostochak shot a 51, Lesley Tayagua a 56 and Ava Harker a 63 for the Lady Warriors.

“It never feels good to lose a close match,” said Wawasee coach Steve Coverstone. “Our top four players had seven holes with scores of eight or higher. We have to reduce those.

“But the girls gave a great effort on a tougher course than most of them have ever played. We are young, but if we keep working we will continue to see improvement.”

Warsaw (9-2, 2-0 NLC) will host Plymouth for a conference match at Stonehenge Golf Club on Thursday. Wawasee (6-2, 1-1 NLC) hosts NorthWood and Northridge in NLC play at South Shore Golf Club on Thursday.
