Call it a learning experience.

SOUTH WHITLEY – Equalling their scoring output in their first six matches, Whitko High School’s girls soccer team scored its first win of the season Wednesday evening.

WINONA LAKE – Grace College volleyball team was unable to bounce back from a sluggish start against Marian on Wednesday.

NORTH JUDSON – Delanie Groves’ nine-hole round of 51 led the Triton girls golf team to a win in a four-team match Wednesday at Chesapeake Run Golf Club.

For the second consecutive year, third-generation driver Zeke McKenzie of Claypool won the dirt modified track championship at Hartford Speedway in Hartford, Mich. McKenzie, who is currently seventh in the national point standings, won all but three of Hartford Speedway’s features this season. McKenzie has won a total 13 features this season at various tracks.

Warsaw boys soccer coach Frank Courtois felt his team was the better squad in Tuesday evening’s Northern Lakes Conference match with the visiting Elkhart Memorial Crimson Chargers.

ROCHESTER – Harley Kruschwitz scored all five goals in the Manchester boys soccer team’s 5-3 win Tuesday  in a Three Rivers Conference match at Rochester.

I’ll admit, I’d never been big on soccer.

NORTH MANCHESTER – Torina Runkel placed 12th to lead the Manchester girls cross country team to a third-place finish Saturday at the Squires’ own invite.

WINONA LAKE – Five different goalscorers lifted Grace College’s men’s soccer team to a 5-2 victory over Bluefield on Monday.

WABASH – “Let’s win this thing.”  Those were Manchester coach Greg Miller’s words to his team at halftime, before the Squires pulled off a spectacular, come-from-behind, 36-29 victory Friday at Wabash. 

AKRON – After rough outings against Bremen and Culver Academy the previous two weeks, the Tippecanoe Valley Vikings looked to turn things around Friday. Lined up on the other side of the field were the North Miami Warriors, who were also seeking their first win of the season.

PLYMOUTH – Though they have more than 40 years of head coaching experience in northern Indiana between them, Bart Curtis and John Barron had never met on the football field. Their first coaching matchup – which was the 99th meeting between longtime rivals Warsaw and Plymouth – will probably be talked about for a long time.

SYRACUSE – Offensive struggles stifled Wawasee on Friday.  The Warriors converted just seven first downs while giving up big plays to Northridge in a 27-6 Northern Lakes Conference loss at Warrior Field. 

The Warsaw Lady Tigers finished the round robin portion of the Northern Lakes Conference girls golf season in fine fashion Thursday evening.

GOSHEN – Warsaw overcame adversity for another Northern Lakes Conference volleyball win Thursday.

WINONA LAKE – Grace College’s cross country team, coached by Jeff Raymond, is gearing up for the start of the 2018 season.

WINONA?LAKE – Tori Calizo scored a hat trick to lead the Lakeland Christian girls soccer team to an 8-2 win over visiting Wawasee on Thursday. Anna Reimink kicked in two goals for the Lady Cougars (5-0-1), while Jessi Calizo, Carly O’Hara and Lauren Starrett also scored.

The Cancer Care Fund of Kosciusko County Charity Golf Event is scheduled for Sept. 7 at Tippecanoe Lake Country Club.

The Warsaw Tigers never gave up Wednesday night.

WINONA LAKE – Corinne Villalobos is a name that Michigan-Dearborn won’t soon forget. The junior scored all four goals for Grace’s women’s soccer team on Wednesday in a 4-0 rout.
