Prep Roundup: Runkel Leads Lady Squires To Third-Place Finish

NORTH MANCHESTER – Torina Runkel placed 12th to lead the Manchester girls cross country team to a third-place finish Saturday at the Squires’ own invite.

Manchester placed third with a score of 117.

Runkel ran the race in 21:22, while Jaelyn Webb came in 15th (21:31.1), Kambree Cashdollar was 27th (22:11.1), Katie Barker finished 30th (22:23.4), and Halle Briner placed 33th in (22:33.3).

Tippecanoe Valley placed 16th with a score of 440.

Valeria Jimenez was 64th for the Lady Vikings (23:30.7), while Haley Hoover placed 86th (25:13.2), Lorena Santiago came in 93rd (25:51.7), Ava Craig finished 94th (25:53.6), and Lauren Sponseller came in 103rd (28:00.9).

Whitko was 18th overall with a score of 498.

Whitko’s Lily Spurlin was 49th (23:00.7), Amanda Leppek was 105th (28:20.4), Amaya Norman placed third (29:47.9), Elizabeth Foutz came in 117 (32.65.5), and Laura Jackson finished 118th (34.57.4).

The Lady Squires’ Silenelinn Jaloenchaimongkol placed 28th (34:09.9) in the girls JV meet

Manchester finished 10th with a score of 331 in the boys meet, as Carter Bedke placed 36th (18:35.1), Wilson Nettleton finished 52nd (19:23.8), Ethan Davis came in 78th (20:05.9), Raice Martin was 79th (20:07.4), and Reece Adamiec was 86th (20:20.4).

Tippecanoe Valley placed 18th with a score of 474.

Valley’s Matthew Howes placed 43 (18:50.4), Mitchell Smith came in 62 (19:40.8), Chase Miller finished 118th (21:59), Justin Peconga was 119th (21:59.7), and Jace Holloway came in 132nd (22:56.1).

Whitko’s Zack Freel came in 95th (20:37.7) as the Wildcats came in 23rd with a team score of 652. Jacob Porter placed 113th (21:34.3), Jayden Stratton was 141st (23:34.3), Gavyn Alexander came in 151st (26:39.2), and Ethan Joseph placed 152nd (28:09.0).

Samuel Turner placed 11th in 22:59.9 as Lakeland Christian’s lone runner.

Concordia Lutheran placed first in the boys meet (36), and also won the girls meet (83).



Tiger Runners Place Eighth At Marion Invite

MARION – The Warsaw boys cross country team finished eighth out of 16 teams at Saturday’s Marion Invitational.

Warsaw totaled a team score of 232.

Zeb Hernandez led the Tigers by placing 17th in 16:43.

Sam Lechlitner was 32nd (17:03), while Tanner Stiver placed 56th (17:26), Jacob Kissling finished 72nd (17:43), and Fernando Niebbia came in 84th (17:56).

Warsaw’s girls team placed 12th out of 18 teams with a score of 325.

Wini Barnett placed 43rd (20:23) for the Lady Tigers, while Adree Beckham was 63rd (20:53), Megan Dawson placed 78th (21:13), Amslie Howett finished 81st (21:18) and Alex Hermann came in 89th (21:31).

The Lady Tigers placed second in the junior/senior JV race, and third in the freshman/sophomore JV race.

Warsaw next will compete today at 5:30 p.m. against Concord and NorthWood in a Northern Lakes Conference race at Ox Bow Park in Goshen.



Steffensmeier Leads Warsaw In Rout

Abby Steffensmeier pulled off a hat trick to lead the Warsaw girls soccer team to a 7-0 win over Argos on Saturday in a home match.

Steffensmeier also assisted on two goals for the Lady Tigers (6-2), while Delaney Taylor tallied two goals and an assist.

Warsaw’s Olivia Herman and Audrey Grimm also scored, while Brenna Buhrt, Brielle Fehlman and Carissa Koontz each had one assist.

Warsaw will play today at 7:15 p.m. at Elkhart Memorial.



Goshen Blanks Lady Warriors

GOSHEN – The Wawasee girls soccer team lost 6-0 in a Northern Lakes Conference match Saturday at Goshen.

Sam Kolberg was in the net with 12 saves for the Lady Warriors (1-5-1, 0-2 NLC).



Whitko Falls To Mississinewa

SOUTH WHITLEY – The Whitko girls soccer team lost 4-1 to Mississinewa on Saturday in a home match.

The Lady Wildcats (0-6) next will host Wawasee on Wednesday at 5 p.m.



Wawasee Kickers Score One In Loss

HUNTINGTON – Ethan Carey scored a goal, but the Wawasee boys soccer team lost 3-1 Saturday at Huntington North.

Chris Strombeck assisted on Carey’s goal. With the loss, the Warriors dropped to 2-6.

Wawasee lost the JV match 5-0.



Vikings Come Up Empty At Blueberry Festival

PLYMOUTH – The Tippecanoe Valley coed soccer team lost two matches at the Blueberry Festival Soccer Tournament on Saturday in Plymouth.

Valley lost 3-1 to South Bend Clay before falling 10-0 to Plymouth.

The Vikings will host North Miami today at 5 p.m.



Warsaw Drops Two  Soccer At Tourney

HUNTERTOWN – The Class 3A No. 15 Warsaw boys soccer team dropped a pair of matches at Saturday’s Carroll Tournament.

The Tigers lost 2-0 to Homestead before being edged 2-1 by NorthWood.

Warsaw’s lineup was missing Tedros Berelsman, as well as Blake Burns who was injured, and Jorge Rico, who did not play for personal reasons.



Valley Posts Three Wins At Garrett Tournament

GARRETT – Saturday turned up three wins and a loss for the Tippecanoe Valley volleyball team at the Garrett Tournament.

The Lady Vikings (7-7) topped New haven 25-15, 28-26 before defeating Eastside 22-25, 25-14, 15-11 and beating Whitko 25-6, 25-18.

Valley’s lone loss came to Garrett, 25-12, 25-13.

Whitko went 1-3 at the invite. In addition to Valley, the Lady Wildcats lost to Eastside 25-18, 25-19 and Garrett, 25-14, 25-17.

Whitko topped Hamilton 25-5, 25-14.

Carissa Beck tallied 16 kills for the Lady Wildcats, while Kristina Slater tallied 18 digs and five aces, Elizabeth Miller recorded 10 digs and nine aces,  and Reese Bradford registered 40 assists.



Wawasee Finishes Seventh At Swan Lake

PLYMOUTH – Belle Brunner shot a 97 to lead the Wawasee girls golf team to a seventh-place finish Saturday at Swan Lake Resort.

The Lady Warriors (8-7) compiled a team score of 398.

Wawasee’s Tate Cowan shot a 99, while Jadison Rostochak and Lesley Tayagua carded 101s and Taylor Cripe recorded a 109.

NorthWood was first out of 14 teams with a score of 330.



Lady Tigers Battle For Ninth At Broncho Invite

LAFAYETTE – The Warsaw girls golf team placed ninth at Saturday’s Broncho Invite at Battle Ground Golf Club.

Warsaw compiled a team score of 387.

Madelyn Ray and Izzy Ray each shot 18-hole rounds of 95 for the Lady Tigers, while Grayson Kilburn and Marie Frazetta carded 98s and Julia Hildebrand scored a 108.

Individually, Miriam Hagg shot a 95.

Invite host Lafayette Jefferson placed first with a team score of 325.



Triton Topped By Bethany Christian

GOSHEN – Jared Bules won at No. 2 singles, but the Triton boys tennis team dropped a match 4-1 Saturday at Bethany Christian.

Bules won 6-4, 6-4 for the Trojans (3-5, 2-2 Hoosier North Athletic Conference).

Triton lost the JV match 3-1.



Tigers Roll Past Rockies

WARSAW – The Warsaw JV football team excelled on both sides of the ball in a 22-6 win over Plymouth on Saturday at Fisher Field.

Plymouth’s lone score came in the fourth quarter after Warsaw had already compiled a 22-0 lead.

The Tigers (2-1, 1-0 Northern Lakes Conference) benefitted from Zach Ransbottom’s interception and Zeek Reed’s forced fumble, which was recovered by Parker Davenport.

Aaron Greene threw a touchdown pass to Colton Wampler for Warsaw, which will play Monday at 6 p.m. at Fort Wayne Snider.



Wawasee Raided By Northridge

MIDDLEBURY – The Wawasee JV football team fell 41-0 in a conference game at Northridge.

The Warriors are 1-2, 0-1 Northern Lakes Conference.

Squires Win Over Wabash

NORTH MANCHESTER – The Manchester freshman football team defeated Wabash 19-14 Monday in a home game.

The Squires will host Peru on Monday at 6:30 p.m.
