We are nearly two full years into the 12-team playoff experiment in college football and there is still one glaring problem facing it.

There was a day, about six years ago, that the people in the Warsaw Athletic Department will never, ever forget.

Homer Sailor, the property manager for the Winona School of Professional Photography, got an eye-popping surprise one day in 1941 when he came to open the building in preparation for summer classes.

There are no more area football teams in action, and the other fall high school sports seasons have also come to an end. This probably would have been a great weekend for a long-form feature to gobble up copy space in the real estate afforded us in local print media, but there was actually something worth discussing from earlier this week on the area’s NAIA-affiliated campus, Grace College.

Retirement has changed in many ways over the last generation or two. Here are some of the most important ones, and what you can do to plan for them.

There is a topic of discussion, rather a person of interest, that I have tried to avoid talking about up to this point this season.

When a team isn’t doing well, the first person to feel the strain of that is the head coach.

Tourists and lakeside dwellers of Indiana’s larger lakes have often enjoyed sightseeing and history teaching excursions on large watercraft. On Wawasee, it is the S.S. Lilypad. On Webster, it is the venerable Dixie Sternwheeler.

You’ve heard “this must be the place” in movie scenes, and a 1983 talking Heads album has a very upbeat tune on it named, This Must Be The Place (Naïve Melody), as well.

Although an advisor writing a column about how to meet with an advisor may seem a little self-serving, the goal is to help readers make the most of their initial meeting with a financial planner and to identify some of the qualities to look for when selecting an advisor.

It’s been a while since I delved into the NFL for what I want to cover in my introduction, but this week’s topic has been bugging me for a few weeks now. With a fantastic World Series behind us and the College Football Playoff still a month away, now feels like the right time to discuss the league that I pick five games from each week.

When I was in the U.S. Army many years ago, we were taught never to light a match or have a fire at night when we were in the field because the enemy would see us.

Editor, Times-Union: Are you sick of the “shutdown” brought on by the cancerous growth of the Administrative State and the resultant tyranny of the general government? Be assured, there is a “cure”: The Constitution Solution. The prescription for this budgetary plague is called “The CAST Act” (Commission on Agency Sunset and Transition). It is based on the concepts of the Texas Sunset Advisory Commission.

Editor, Times-Union: The various media have been heralding “peace” in the Middle East between Israel and the Jewish nations’ avowed enemies, Hamas and Hezbollah.

The Chicago Boys Club, a nonprofit youth recreation organization, was incorporated in 1902. It was founded in Chicago by John F. Atkinson, and first occupied rented quarters on South State Street in Chicago.

Recent takes on the gambling scandal resulting in arrests for NBA players and coaches, Terry Rozier and Chauncy Billups to name a few, vary to no surprise (for me) in line with people’s personal biases and moral/ethical foundations.

We get many questions each week about Social Security, and rightly so; it is a very important element of retirement planning. It is one of the most popular government programs in history. However, it is complicated and there are many strategies to maximize your benefits. Today, we’ll discuss the basics of the program, but you have specific questions, please give Jason or me a call at the office.

I’ve long said that right behind Christmas, Halloween is my favorite holiday.

Our city motto encourages my office to make the City of Warsaw a great place to Live, Work, and Play.

Last week, 34 people were arrested for their part in separate FBI investigations into various forms of gambling.

Jess Rayburn Hopper, who was president of the student council at Grand Rapids Baptist College (now Cornerstone University), had just finished his junior year in 1984 as a speech major. The 23-year-old had been recruited by Ron Busch, his college speech professor, to work at the Winona Lake Bible Conference for the summer along with Hopper’s roommate, Terry Knauss, 23. Busch was executive director of the Winona Lake Christian Assembly at the time.

One of Mel Brooks’ characters through time in History of The World Part I is a king leading up to his unfortunate days when the citizens of France come for his head in the late 18th Century.

Over the years, we’ve noticed that our clients here in Kosciusko County have done a pretty good job of preparing for retirement. Increasingly, though, we are seeing people who are delaying their planning because they view it as too complicated or are simply overwhelmed by the number of choices that exist for their retirement.

It was moving to watch the joy in Israel as the 20 living hostages left were released after 738 days of captivity and were reunited with their loved ones.
