An early morning fire today burned down a barn southwest of Pierceton. At about 5:15 a.m., Pierceton fire responded to a barn fire at 5422 S. CR 550E. Four cows and an unspecified number of pigs were lost in the blaze, according to Pierceton Fire Chief Gordon Baker. No injuries were reported. The fire was about 40 feet wide and 60 feet long, according to Baker. It took about 45 minutes and about 30 firefighters to contain the blaze. Baker estimates the fire caused about $60,000 in damage. Winona Lake and Sidney fire departments assisted in fighting the blaze, and were given support by Larwill Fire Department. The fire was contained to the barn, which is owned by?Dean Calhoun. Cause of the fire remains under investigator, Baker said.
