Editor, Times-Union:As a child, "colored" was the polite word to distinguish a darker-skinned person - later it was "negro," then "black" and now "African-American."

- Hit And Run - Swan Issue - Enough Hit And Run Editor, Times-Union: This letter is to the young lady who ran into my motorcycle at the old Owens Supermarket, Saturday about 6 p.m.I have no idea how you didn't see my bike sitting there, when I was the only one in the whole row of spaces.I can only speculate that you were talking on your cell phone and not paying attention to what you were doing. I realize that accidents are going to happen, but you should have done the mature thing and stuck around and took responsibility for your actions. Even though no one got your license plate number, we do know you were driving a white car and you were wearing a red shirt.Hopefully, the police will be able to get your plate number off of the surveillance camera at the store.
- Recycling - Prayer Recycling Editor, Times-Union: I was so pleased to hear that there was going to be a recycling station in Pierceton. This would save long trips to Warsaw just to drop off recycling. I made my first trip to the new site on Monday evening. When I got there, the cardboard bin was overfull and it looked like the bins were being used by the community.Much to my horror, I found that the cardboard bin had been loaded with very large, unbroken-down boxes, including most of the styrofoam packing material still in them. This included a water heater box, which wasn't bad, but the old water heater lay on the ground about 20 yard beyond the cardboard bin. It's too bad that a few uncaring idiots can make something good and useful such a mess.
Even in smaller cities like Warsaw and Winona Lake, domestic violence is strong and is negatively affecting families.
As Domestic Violence Victims’ Advocate, I felt compelled to express my reaction to the recently released video a domestic violence episode between Ray Rice and Janay Palmer-Rice.

Editor, Times-Union:With experts from the Social Security Administration saying John McCain has 14.2 to 15.1 percent chance of not being able to fulfill a four-year term as president, we accept that Sarah Palin very well may end up filling the position. But how in touch is she with the average Americans? Let's take a look.

Editor, Times-Union:Folks, the owners of many of the homes in our town are 60+ and soon they are going to be leaving their homes for a smaller place.
Editor, Times-Union: For many years there has been a so-called “war on drugs” in this country. The phrase was itself a piece of propaganda authored by John Ehrlichman, President Nixon’s assistant on domestic affairs. Integral to this “war” has been an extensive and expensive assault on a substantial portion of American society – people who use marijuana. Not only has it been wrong; it is a terrible failure.
Welfare Editor, Times-Union: There is a big push by Tea baggers and their Republicrat co-conspirators, along with some very wealthy Demoncrazies, to drastically slash government spending. To us unwashed peasants, that also means cutting the debt. The loudest voices screaming for this are certain hypocrites in Congress. They think a lot differently than we do. When meeting here at local churches (where else?), they rant about those “horrible welfare recipients” (as food prices skyrocket) – never dare mentioning that their own hands continually reach deeply into the pork barrel. Rep. Fincher, Rep. Hartzler, Sen. Tester, Rep. Latham and last but not least Marlin Stutzman, are all on welfare themselves! They have received over $6 million in farm subsidy welfare. Marlin Stutzman and his family alone have received $998,000 of this welfare since 1995. Farm subsidies are part of a program originally meant to support farmers caught in times of distress – not as ongoing largesse for the rich! Now Marlin, what did you say about cutting the debt? You first! It's supposed to be tea bags, not money bags. Tom Metzger Warsaw, via e-mail Editor, Times-Union: There is a big push by Tea baggers and their Republicrat co-conspirators, along with some very wealthy Demoncrazies, to drastically slash government spending.
- Accident - Farm Ground Accident Editor, Times-Union: This letter concerns the accident that happened June 7 at 1:28 a.m.at the corner of Cook and Sheridan streets. My husband and I happened to be up at that hour, as was our neighbor. We all heard him fly by our houses ] and I mean fly.Why is it that he wasn't charged with reckless driving, driving through a stop sign and fleeing the scene of an accident? Evidently, we have to wait until someone is killed before any action is taken. The man had no license, no insurance and no plates.Yet he was let off with a slap on the hand.Is this how our city is going to handle people who could easily have taken an innocent life? This wasn't justice and it certainly wasn't a joke.I for one am tired of the court system being so lenient on dangerous individuals.
Editor, Times-Union:Islam is a religion just like Christianity, but there is one big obvious difference: “the behavior.” The behavior of Islam stands out as destructive and ruthless. They just don’t care and they are evil to the core.
Editor, Times-Union:As a citizen, you would seem to think that to flourish in a society that profits off subjugating and manipulating fellow human beings, you would almost have to become a person who cares little about the well being of another person, unless, maybe, it is for your own gain.
