Recycling

Editor, Times-Union:
I was so pleased to hear that there was going to be a recycling station in Pierceton. This would save long trips to Warsaw just to drop off recycling.

I made my first trip to the new site on Monday evening. When I got there, the cardboard bin was overfull and it looked like the bins were being used by the community. Much to my horror, I found that the cardboard bin had been loaded with very large, unbroken-down boxes, including most of the styrofoam packing material still in them. This included a water heater box, which wasn't bad, but the old water heater lay on the ground about 20 yard beyond the cardboard bin.

It's too bad that a few uncaring idiots can make something good and useful such a mess.

Here's a request to the public to keep an eye out for these things and turn them in to the authorities. Let's keep our recycling center open and clean. It is for everyone's good.

Prayer

Editor, Times-Union:
This past week has been a very sad week indeed.

First the killing of the Amish girls in Pennsylvania. I do wish the media would honor them and not take pictures and constantly be on their doorstep. I know it is news, but we need to respect their beliefs, too. We really need to pray for these families. One family lost two little girls - 6 and 8 - I can't image the agony. I do want to commend State Police Commissioner Jeffrey B. Miller for his very professional way he has handled himself and his fellow officers.

Then we have this whole mess in Washington with Foley and his alternative lifestyle and his penchant for young males. What makes a person think he can get away with such stuff is beyond me. Now a program that has been such a blessing to many young people is in jeopardy because of his uncontrollable urges. And please do not blame it on someone else, Mr. Foley. You are an adult and know the difference between right and wrong. I do not care to hear how you were molested and that now gives you the right to be a molester. Please, how much more of the passing the blame game are people going to tolerate.

We have all experienced things in our life that could turn our world upside down or will at one time or another. When do we realize that experiences do not define us. They only do that if we allow them to. Molestation is a horrible thing to happen to anybody, but we can't take and spend the rest of our lives blaming this happening as an excuse to be stupid. There are a lot of ways to put things into perspective and you will have to choose how you want to deal with your pain. I suggest you find a good evangelical church and seek the guidance of the pastor who will lead you to the Cross.

Now I read because of all the school happenings, a representative from Wisconsin wants it legal for teachers, principals and janitors to carry weapons for defense. Okay, what is going on here? First and foremost, why should our teachers have to be armed? The world is so blind to how far off we have become as a society. I have two little grandboys in school and it scares me to think some other child or nut from the outside is going to harm them. We need to get a grip people and start at square one and ask ourselves why our society is on such a downward spiral? I'm not going to get theological on you, because if you have read any of my letters you already know my faith stance. But the further we get from the Truth, the worse off we are going to be.

We need to be a nation in prayer and don't fluff it off as if prayer won't do a thing. Try it, you might surprise yourself.

The overall attitude of our society is, "the means justifies the end" - it doesn't. "Success without honor is an unseasoned dish; it will satisfy your hunger but it won't taste good" - Joe Paterno.
