Letters To The Editor

Editor, Times-Union:There is a trend going on at one of Kosciusko County's largest employers, which also happens to be one of the largest orthopedics manufacturers.

Editor, Times-Union:Did you know that a business that accepts Visa card purchases may not impose a minimum purchase requirement?

Editor, Times-Union:I just finished reading Janet Collins' letter published Dec. 30.

Editor, Times-Union:Are you scared of the shocks that come with growing old? There is a fine fellow who comes to the island in Winona Lake every summer who is my hero - the person I want to grow up to be like. Now, I am 66 years old already, but this man shows me how joyful, productive and special it is possible to be when I turn 89, which he is doing this month.

Editor, Times-Union:Soon after President Obama was elected he told us the economy was going to get worse. How did he know this?

- Taxes Taxes Editor, Times-Union: Two questions.Years ago when the politicans begged the public to vote for a sales tax they promised that if the tax brought in xxx dollars revenue at the end of the first fiscal period that they would eliminate property taxes. They even bragged that the sales tax brought in a great deal more than the anticipated revenue (look it up in your own paper,) so why are we still paying prperty taxes, which will probably jump due to reassessment? Even though the politicans say they have voted in a lower rate, the increased valuation will still increase the amount we pay.I guess they think the public is too dumb to see that.

Editor, Times-Union:In response to Don Guard's Aug. 1 letter:First, the short list - what Mr. Guard got right.

- Silver Lake School - Freedom For Everyone - Incensed - Lake City Skiers - Warsaw Zoning - Military Readiness - Stop Rambling II Silver Lake School Editor, Times-Union: Re: Silver Lake school …

Editor, Times-Union:I write this because my great-great-great-grandfather on my mother's side fought in the Revolutionary War for the freedom of this country.

I was disappointed to read in the May 1 paper that some of Winona Lake's elected officials are sloppily engaging in character assassination against one of our responsible citizens.

- Give Blood Today - Careful With Animals - Heaven Over Hell Give Blood Today Editor, Times-Union: As we approach the Christmas Holidays, I am reminded of the old adage: "It is better to give than to receive."Certainly one can take great joy in giving a present to a child, spouse, family member or respected friend. How much greater this satisfaction when the one that will receive the gift is unknown - and most likely will never be known.Such is the case when you take the time to donate blood, and provide the gift of life. How appropriate to provide this gift as we look forward to Christmas.

Editor, Times-Union: I have just reviewed the letter from my ex-wife. The same letter she sent you about me. Wow, what a letter! It brought tears to my eyes to read it. But it’s all true.

Editor, Times-Union:Several months ago, the slogan “We are Warsaw” was widely used to rally the community around approving the renovation of two schools and building a new elementary school.

Editor, Times-Union:Bravo, Lauren!

Editor, Times-Union:You recently published a letter concerning a new restaurant that just reopened.

Editor, Times-Union:I seems to me that a calming, even-handed suggestion has been made by the pastors, priests, rabbis and other clergy ...

Editor, Times-Union:While Rebecca Kubacki’s rags-to-riches story and the good things she has done in her life are certainly noteworthy, you’ll never convince a lot of us that you haven’t turned your back on your humble beginnings and now are a full-fledged member of the “wealthy elite.”

Editor, Times-Union:Direct Support Professionals Week falls on Sept. 13-19.

Editor, Times-Union:I have a correction to make to my letter on May 8, titled "Mocking."

Editor, Times-Union:I stare out this window once again, looking beyond these bars, these walls, these hills.

Editor, Times-Union: Once again, this Saturday morning will see hundreds of athletes on bicycles on the Pierceton Road from Winona Lake to Pierceton. And I do mean hundreds of bikes, on both sides of the road, making travel in a car or truck very hazardous that morning. We’re on that road from 8 a.m. until about 11 a.m.

- Right And Wrong - Pension Plans - Missing Word - Good, Bad Drivers - Religious Imposition - Jail Revival - Silver Lake Thanks - Diallo Acquittal Right And Wrong Editor, Times-Union: Tim Keyes writes "First, none of you, the readers, including myself, are 'wrong' or 'right.' We no longer live in a world of absolutes."I hope you don't have offspring, Tim.I can hear it now: "Daddy is it wrong for me to blow up the school?" - Not Necessarily So - Help Our 'Otis' - Libertarian Meeting - Lost Dog, Happy Ending Not Necessarily So Editor, Times-Union: What the president, Congress and economists tell us about the economy reminds me of what George Gershwin wrote in one of his songs: "It ain't necessarily so."When one talks to the average citizen about the economy it is a different story than that which comes out of Washington, D.C.

Editor, Times-Union:Would like to say a very nice article and picture of the LCA team donating food to Combined Community Services.
