Editor, Times-Union: Once again, this Saturday morning will see hundreds of athletes on bicycles on the Pierceton Road from Winona Lake to Pierceton. And I do mean hundreds of bikes, on both sides of the road, making travel in a car or truck very hazardous that morning. We’re on that road from 8 a.m. until about 11 a.m.
This is a plea from one of the participants asking all drivers to please avoid that area on Saturday morning. It is difficult enough for us to avoid the other cyclists and it gets dangerous for all of us when cars get on the road as well. As athletes, we love what we do and when we’re on the bike we are very alert but riding just as fast as we can.
So please, plan to avoid the Pierceton Road this Saturday morning. The Warsaw Breakfast Optimists Club does a wonderful job organizing this triathlon and all of us want to keep it as safe as possible.
