Letters To The Editor

Editor, Times-Union:Over the last few weeks I have read and watched on TV the news on the Phoenix VA Center problems.

Editor, Times-Union:On May 10, I watched helplessly as two large dogs came into my yard and ripped apart my 8-month-old kitten.

- Church And State - Time Zones - Newspaper Good Church And State Editor, Times-Union: The ACLU is trying to make the United States a nation free from religion. Here in Indiana, the ICLU wants prayers that invoke the name of Jesus Christ to be banned. Two professing Roman Catholics, a Quaker and a former Methodist preacher join hand in hand with the ACLU claiming to be offended at hearing the name of Jesus Christ in government situations.Nowhere in the Constitution does it say that we as citizens of the United States have a right to not be offended. This frivolous case states that praying in the name of Jesus Christ is offensive to some and creates the situation of Indiana establishing a state religion.

Editor, Times-Union:Property taxes are too high and they continue to go up. Records show that from 1980 to 2005, they have increased over 450 percent, and with a great number of homeowners' tax bills this year, they are continuing upward at an alarming pace.

- Domestic Tragedy - School Decisions - Redefining Tolerance - Animal Abuse Domestic Tragedy Editor, Times-Union: At a time like this, when we Americans may face the very real need to defend our families & selves from hideous acts these ...people (I can't even begin to politely vocalize my true thoughts) or elected officials as they're sometimes called, want to take advantage of a horrible situation to further their political agendas.

- Phil Tom - Back To The Days - Lakeland Thanks Phil Tom Editor, Times-Union: Although I rarely respond to news articles, your coverage of Phil Tom's situation has been so inaccurate that I probably should correct the record. First, I do represent Kosciusko County, but I am in private practice.I represent hundreds of individuals and businesses in the area. However, I have never represented the county regarding Mr.Tom.

- Webster Library - Likes Madison - Ice Cream Social - Veterans Webster Library Editor, Times-Union: On June 8 a town meeting was held to discuss the future of the North Webster Tippecanoe Township Library.Taxpayers were invited to attend to offer support and examine concerns related to allowing this facility to become a Class 1 library.Certainly all taxpayers should ask questions and expect answers and it's natural to feel concern when there's a suggestion that taxes may be raised to cover the cost of community improvement. Many people would agree that paying taxes isn't as distressing as wasteful spending.

Editor, Times-Union:What are Progressive ideas?

- Prescription Drugs - Honest People - Thanksgiving - Akron Parents Prescription Drugs Editor, Times-Union: To all my fellow Americans: When are we in this great United States going to wake up and tell our government what is good for this country? We are paying out the nose for prescription drugs, clothes, gas and food, and too many things to write in one letter. It's OK to buy shoes from Taiwan, China, Indonesia, etc.; we are forced to buy things made in foreign countries that used to be made right here in our country, let alone all the jobs we have lost to businesses moving out to others.

Editor, Times-Union:In response to "God Chose": "Things are going to get worse in the future" is a very broad statement, and what things are going to get worse?

Editor, Times-Union:I saw a smiling picture of the vice president in the Times-Union, or does viper fit better?

Editor, Times-Union:If there’s one thing we should stand up for today in politics, it’s transparency.

Editor, Times-Union:The Indiana House of Representatives is currently reviewing two bills that deal with abortions and health care services.

Editor, Times-Union:I read wild accusations in the Times-Union last week against Kosciusko Commissioner Robert Conley,  a man of excellent reputation.

Editor, Times-Union:Last night, I told my wife that I needed to write a letter to the editor.

Editor, Times-Union:I would like someone to answer for me why Gov. Mitch Daniels and the Senate Committee are asking that the Indiana cigarette tax be increased from the 55 cents it is now to another 25 cents to fund the new dubbed The Healthy Indiana Plan?

- Missile Defense - Flag Thanks - Mysterious Taxpayer Missile Defense Editor, Times-Union: I am writing as a member of the American Conservative Union to urge all citizens to support President Bush's proposal for a missile defense shield to protect our country. The president proposes to scrap the ABM (anti-ballistic missile) treaty, which has severely limited development of defensive systems. This treaty was signed by the United States and other countries nearly 30 years ago, in the depths of the Cold War.It is now outdated because of the demise of the Soviet Union, increased threats from rogue states and vastly improved computer technology.

Editor, Times-Union:I want to bring everyone up to date with my appeal for the property tax assessment I received this year, which drove up my assessment up $25,100 from the year before from $192,900 to $218,100.

Editor, Times-Union: It occurred to me as I read the letters to the editor from fifth grade students at Harrison Elementary that the children have a much clearer grasp of issues that they can directly impact and that pertain to our own community.

Editor, Times-Union:Hi, my name is Mona Lisa Niles. My son, Brad Lee Niles Jr., wrote an article on his addictions with meth and his life.

Editor, Times-Union:As a former Warsaw resident, I enjoy reading the online edition of the Times-Union.

Editor, Times-Union:After several telephone calls, I have finally found out that you are absolutely right -

Editor, Times-Union:2015 was a good year; but now in 2016 we must all beware, all norms will be challenged.
