History's Secrets

After several telephone calls, I have finally found out that you are absolutely right - Ike Tallman was asked to resign after his Warsaw team played in the 1976 semi-state for the first time since the 1936 and 37 teams played in the Muncie semi-state, which, by the way, I attended.

However, Superintendent Hobbs and Mr. Tallman never let me know about it. They kept it quiet from about everyone - which I believe is the way it should be. I was informed of all this by Darrell Boling, who phoned me this morning. Boling was athletic director at the time, and he said Ike and the school board "got into it" over a few things. Tallman, of course, did resign as requested and went to Penn High School as assistant principal, thus entering the administrative field.

I still stand by my previously stated beliefs - that Coach Ogle is a good coach, and possibly more importantly, a good man.

I still believe, like my friend Jeff Grose and others, that this whole controversy was uncalled for and did not have to come out in the open. I respect Jeff Johnson and the few other dissenters for their opinions, but I believe they are wrong and very much in the minority.

P.S. Max Reed, whose son Steve played on that 1976 semi-state team, and former athletic director Gene Butts, were of the same belief as me - that Ike had resigned of his own choice.
