- Understanding The Kingdom - Radical Republicans - Bad Reporter - Disgusting Decision Understanding The Kingdom Editor, Times-Union: From most church pulpits we hear again and again the words "The Kingdom of God."Let us seek to understand this kingdom. Some questions are: Is it here? Is it out of this world? Is it coming? Is it a gift? Is it earned? How can we get into it? How important is it? Or is it? With such a rash of shootings, suicides, rapes, abuses, giant companies' leaders's stealings, we are forced to realize the kingdom is absent here. The great Russian novelist Dostoevsky wrote: "If there is no God, anything is permissable."He thereby wrote a phrase that proves what is not the kingdom of God.

To answer Mr.Guard's question: I did vote, and sided with 78 percent of forward-thinking New Orleanians in choosing John Kerry. It's nice to see the venom of Mr.Guard is still intact.I guess it's better to be mean-spirited and misguided than nothing at all, right? And to be a proud member of a movement that lately (read: under George W.Bush's leadership) prides itself on its divisiveness? I feel sympathy for blind souls such as yourself, Mr.Guard.If only the world were as black-and-white as you apparently think it is.
- Manchester Response - Basketball Tourney Manchester Response Editor, Times-Union: I would like to respond to the letter from Heath Miller. I wonder if Mr.Miller attended the same Valley/Manchester game we did.Did he notice the Manchester student section waving derogatory posters about Valley's ISTEP scores? Did he notice the homemade T-shirts the student section wore depicting the infamous "chicken incident"? If so, he didn't mention it in his letter. The only thing Mr.Miller noticed was that Manchester lost, at home. While the posters and T-shirts were probably in poor taste, I can think of a lot of other things that are worse. And we are talking about kids.Kids do that kind of thing, that's why they're kids.At least they were at the game supporting their school activities.
