Warsaw Police Department has received several calls in reference to caller ID spoofing.
Caller ID spoofing occurs when the telephone number/name that appears as the person/business making the call is actually someone using software to alter the number the call originated from, according to a news release from WPD.
If you answer a call and the caller advises they are a local company, do not release personal information over the phone, the release states. Call the business directly to ensure you are speaking with the actual business.
Additionally, if you have a missed call from a number you are not familiar with and upon calling the number back you are informed they had not placed the call, it is possible someone was using caller ID spoofing in an attempt to contact you.
