Beau Eckel, a recent Warsaw Community High School graduate and award-winning videographer, worked on a film project during his independent study class his senior year.

The world premiere for his movie, “John the Lion,” will be shown at the WCHS Performing Arts Center Friday night. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and showtime is at 7 p.m.

This free premiere showing is open to the public.

He created the feature-length film by holding auditions and casting characters, filming, directing, producing and editing the project as well as assisting in writing the screenplay for it. He just finished editing it.

Broadcasting and film instructor Angela Hopper oversaw the work.

“John the Lion” will lead “you through twists and turns as you try to determine who he really is,” according to a provided news release.

The film examines several social issues along the way, looking at dementia and those who love someone with the disease, the need to respect the elderly and serving those around you.

Eckel is heading to Full Sail University in the Orlando area to study film

The title role is played by Dick Anderson, whose wife, Reva, also acted in the film. Upon viewing the official trailer, the 88-year-old actor remarked, “The quality of this film is exquisite!”

WCHS seniors Caleb Childers, Brynn Durecki and Will Denzer also had starring roles.
