Altrusa International of Warsaw held their monthly business meeting in the parlor of the First United Methodist Church, Warsaw, on Nov. 6.
President Mary Garrett presided.
They were honored to host speaker Kathryn Fields, director of Head Start. Fields provided an informative presentation outlining the program’s current needs and ongoing initiatives. In support of their mission, Altrusa of Warsaw presented Fields with a monetary donation of $600, according to a news release from Altrusa.
Vicki Martin, financial chair/treasurer, shared the financial statement for the period ending Oct. 23. Income and disbursements were reviewed with explanations for each.
Beth Huffer, Marti Lennane, Jan Sloan and Mary Garrett provided review of service committee projects.
The largest service project, Bingo for Beaman, was held Oct. 16 at the MOCC. Four hundred forty people vied for a chance to win one of the 180 prizes collected by Altrusa members. Altrusa and community members provided raffle prizes and door prizes. Proceeds from the event go toward supporting programs at the Beaman Home.
On Oct. 29, Altrusa served nearly 100 patrons at the Community Kitchen at First United Methodist Church.
November projects will have members labeling and distributing books for Operation Read, delivering Mobile Meals, serving a meal the kids at BYC reading to students at Lincoln School and Head Start. The club continues to support a Project Independence student through CCS by providing a monthly stipend to purchase gas for traveling to college in Fort Wayne.
The membership/communications report was given by Chair Julie Hall. Twenty-nine individuals completed the Bingo Comment Card and indicated interest in volunteering with Altrusa, stated the release. A membership event is planned for the spring. The October newsletter was published and yearbook editing continues. Altrusans were encouraged to check email and Facebook to keep informed.
The spring bazaar will be March 7 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Lakeview Middle School. Many vendors from the past few years have requested a registration form.
President Garrett led the members in the benediction signifying adjournment.
Altrusa-Warsaw’s next meeting will be Thursday at 5:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at Papa Vino’s. Anyone interested in learning more about Altrusa is welcome to attend.
