SYRACUSE – Vivian C. “Corrine” Bontrager, 87, Syracuse, passed away at noon Jan. 2, 2016, at Lakeland Rehab and Healthcare, Milford.
She was born June 12, 1928, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Albert and Martha Hanson Clifton. On July 10, 1946, in Valparaiso, she married Frederick M. “Fred” Bontrager Jr., who survives in Warsaw.
She graduated in 1945 from Goshen High School. She moved to Syracuse in 1973 from Goshen where she had lived most of her life except for a brief time in Albuquerque, N.M. She was a homemaker and formerly worked at Switches in Elkhart.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 223, Syracuse; VFW Auxiliary, Syracuse; Moose Lodge, Goshen; and formerly attended the Baptist Church, Goshen.
Also surviving are three sons, Craig Bontrager and Doug Bontrager, both of Syracuse, and Bruce (and spouse Dee) Bontrager, Millersburg; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one stepbrother, Alan Clifton.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Elkhart Prairie Street Cemetery, CR 38, Goshen, with Pastor Brad Cox of the Wawasee Lakeside Chapel officiating.
