SYRACUSE - SSG James P. Snyder, 48, of Nappanee, and formerly of Syracuse, died May 10, 2008, in Columbus, Ga., from injuries suffered while serving in Iraq.
He was born Dec. 10, 1959, in Columbia City, to Maurice and Donna Rockwell Snyder. He married Christine Hochstetler, who survives.
A lifetime area resident, he was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army, recently stationed at Fort Benning. He formerly served in the Gulf War and was in his third tour in Iraq. He attended Brethren in Christ Church, Nappanee.
Also surviving are three children, Douglas, Karlene and Joseph Snyder, all at home; his mother, Donna Snyder, North Webster; three brothers: David Snyder, Laporte; Daniel Snyder, Indianapolis; and Paul Snyder, Portage; and three sisters: Lorree Corbat, Syracuse; Laura Keller, Fort Wayne; and Neva O'Connor, North Webster.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Syracuse Cemetery with full military honors and with Pastors Joseph Fox and Jeff Williams officiating.
Calling is from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home, Harris Chapel, Syracuse.
