BEVERLY, Ohio – The bodies of a Warsaw psychiatrist and his wife were found Saturday afternoon after an apparent plane crash in Ohio.
Umamaheswara Kalapatapu, 61, and his wife, Sitha-Gita Kalapatapu, 63, were found dead in a small retention pond in Southeastern Ohio, The Columbus Dispatch reports.
The couple lived in Logansport.
Authorities believe the crash occurred Saturday morning as the private plane left Cass County in Indiana, but ground control lost contact with them after 10:30 a.m. The plane was reported missing around noon, according to news station WLFI.
The plane disappeared from radar and the wreckage was found in a retention pond.
The plane was supposedly headed toward Washington, D.C.
Lt. Richard Chesar, Ohio Highway Patrol, said the plane was in the water for about seven hours, the TV station reports.
Umamaheswara was listed as a contract psychiatrist with Bowen Center. He began working with Bowen Center in 1993.
He received the University Gold Medal in Ophthalmology in 1979 from Nagarjuna University. He is board certified in psychiatry and is also certified by the American Society of Addiction Medicine. He specialized in substance abuse, geriatric psychiatry and administrative psychiatry, according to the Bowen’s Center website.
Sitha Gita, also a psychiatrist, previously served under contract at Bowen.
“Both Dr. Kalapatapus have worked as contract psychiatrists for Bowen during the last 20 years and they will be missed by clients and staff,” said Kurt Carlson, Bowen Center chief executive officer.
“We were saddened to learn that Dr. Umamaheswara and Dr. Sitha Gita Kalapatapu passed away earlier this weekend,” said Rob Ryan, senior vice president of operations at Bowen Center.
“Our hearts go out to their families and our clients who will surely miss them.”
Ryan said clients who had Dr. Kalapatapu as a doctor in Bowen Center’s Warsaw clinic will be contacted to reschedule upcoming appointments.
He said if any clients have questions, they should feel free to reach out to the Bowen Center registration and scheduling department.
