MENTONE – Mary Elizabeth Teel, 93, of 708 W. Main St., Mentone, died at 6:09 p.m. Jan. 24, 2012, in Miller’s Merry Manor, Warsaw.

She was born Dec. 12, 1918, in Kosciusko County, to Harry and Lela Hershberger Witham. On Oct. 23, 1938, she married Hershel Jacob “Hody” Teel, who died June 26, 1978.

She and her husband owned and operated Teel’s Restaurant, Mentone, for 26 years. She was also a cook for the Mentone School for 13 years.

A lifetime area resident, she graduated from Mentone High School in 1936 and was a member of Mentone United Methodist Church for 72 years and Harrison Center Church for 12 years. She had also been a member of many clubs around Mentone. She was a Chicago Cub fan and an avid Indiana Hoosier basketball fan, hosting Bobby Knight for a meal at her restaurant. She traveled many places including an Alaskan cruise, a trip to the Holy Land and also to Hawaii.

Surviving are three sons: James (and spouse Barbara) Teel, Winona Lake; Richard (and spouse Janie) Teel, Mentone; and David (and spouse Lou) Teel,  Claypool; two daughters-in-law, Kwan Teel, Warsaw, and Cheryl Teel, Willard, Ohio; 20 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Tommy and Larry Teel; a grandson, Scott Teel; two sisters,  Ethel Fisher and Edith Haney; and four brothers,  Thomas, Richard, Art and  Hiley Witham.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone, with the Rev. Amber Karkosky-Litten officiating. Burial will be in  Mentone Cemetery.

Calling is from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
