AKRON - Mary Swafford, 74, of 309 N. Saner Drive, Akron, died at 8:14 p.m. May 18, 2009, in Parkview Whitley Hospital, Columbia City.

She was born Jan. 28, 1935, in Leeville, Tenn., to Lloyd and Gladys Drennan Willard. On Dec. 17, 1955, in Georgia, she married Claude Swafford, who died Dec. 26, 1989.

He was a homemaker looking after her family's needs. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She enjoyed yard work, birds and nature. She loved attending to flowers and her philosophy was "if it is green it will grow."

Surviving are a daughter, Patricia Ann (and spouse Cordell) Hull, Akron; two sons, Ricky Lee Swafford, Akron, and Michael (and spouse Debbie) Swafford, Warsaw; six grandchildren: Damon Prater, Adam Hull and Matthew, Daniel, Whitney and Morgan Swafford; June (and spouse James) Dillard, Lebanon, Tenn.; and two brothers, Danny (and spouse Lou) Willard and Charles Willard, Silver Lake. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Janie Sitts and Margaret Ramsey; and five brothers, Lloyd Pete, Wayne, Anthony, James Mark and Johnny Willard.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Hunter Funeral Home, 208 W. Main, Watertown, Tenn. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Lebanon, Tenn.

Calling is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, and from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Hunter Funeral Home.
