Lona P. Hughes, 86, Silver Lake, peacefully went home to be with her Lord at 6:27 a.m. July 18, 2016, in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, while surrounded by her loving family. She was born April 10, 1930, in Prestonsburg, Ky., to Malcom and Plina Ousley Prater. On Oct. 14, 1946, in Prestonsburg, Ky., she married Charles Hughes, who died Sept. 22, 2006. She moved to Silver Lake from Prestonsburg for most of her married life. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Full Gospel Pentecostal Church, Silver Lake, where she enjoyed caring for children of the church; enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening; she enjoyed watching and feeding birds; she especially enjoyed talking to turtle doves getting them to occasionally flutter down to her feet. Surviving are two sons, Pastor Carl (and spouse Jane) Hughes, Silver Lake, and Harles Hughes, Ohio; a brother, Ed Prater, Silver Lake; two sisters, Arizona “Zonie” Sears, Wabash, and Lizzy Whitaker, Marion, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a son, Charles R. Hughes, who died Feb. 14, 2000; her parents; two brothers, Talt and Asbury Prater; and three sisters, Roxie and Ally Hale and Lola Robinson. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Full Gospel Pentecostal Church, Silver Lake, with Pastor Ron Patrick officiating. Burial will be in Center Cemetery, Silver Lake.
