FORT WAYNE - Kermit B. Leininger, 94, of Winona Lake, and formerly of Fort Wayne, died March 2, 2011.

He was born in 1916, in Akron, to Charles and Bernice Leininger. His loving wife of 70 years, Maxine, survives in Winona Lake.

He attended Beaver Dam High School and played on the basketball team, when they went to the state finals in 1933-34. He graduated from Manchester College with a bachelor's degree and Indiana University with a master's degree in education. He began teaching at Beaver Dam and then moved to the Fort Wayne area. He was a dedicated teacher for 17 years and a principal for 24 years in the Fort Wayne Community Schools. He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church of Fort Wayne.

Also surviving are three sons: Dr. Steve (and spouse Dr. Mary Beth), Lawrence, Kan.; Robert, Fort Wayne; and Daniel (and spouse Cynthia), Winona Lake; five grandchildren: Nick (and spouse Anne) Leininger, John Leininger, Jaclyn (and spouse Davin) Scott and Courtney and Eric Leininger; and a great-grandson, Graham Leininger. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Louise Bucher and Eleanor Malott.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Covington Memorial Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Road, Fort Wayne, with Pastor Scott Carmer officiating.

Entombment will be in Covington Memorial Gardens.

Calling is two hours prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home.
