PLYMOUTH – Kay F. Morgan Smith, 75, of 12482 Olive Trail, Plymouth, died at 8:10 a.m. Sept. 28, 2011, in St. Joseph Hospital, Mishawaka.
She was born Oct. 4, 1935, in Plymouth, to Oscar E. and Hazel A. Unger Morgan. On Oct. 23, 1954, in her sister’s Warsaw residence, she married Billy J. Smith, who survives.
She graduated from LaPaz High School in 1953. She was a caring and active person who loved her family, spending time camping, fishing, hunting mushrooms, attending many sporting events and activities of the grandchildren. She was a member of a home economics club and enjoyed tending a garden, both flower and vegetable, which led to a large amount of canning that she shared with others. In earlier times, she played volleyball, bowled and was a member of the Women’s Softball Team in Plymouth. She enjoyed traveling in the West and spending time in Florida. She was a member of the Plymouth Women of the Moose and liked playing cards. She and her husband appreciated antiques and collected glassware. She was a member of the Plymouth C.B. Radio Club and was often a Cub fan.
Also surviving are a son, Robin D. (and spouse Diana) Smith, Plymouth; a daughter, Carol A. (and spouse Mike) Stockberger, Walkerton; a daughter-in-law, Gayle Smith, Plymouth; nine grandchildren: Trenton, Preston, Trisha Elizabeth, Sean and Andrea Smith and Derek, Stacy and Desrah Stockberger; seven great-grandchildren; five sisters: Jane Wilson, Greenwood; Mary Ann Orr, Warsaw; Helen Robinson, Tippecanoe; Barbara (and spouse Jake) Elliott, Bourbon; and Lois Evans, Plymouth; and two brothers, Daren (and spouse Dorothy) Morgan, Plymouth, and Stanley (and spouse Dorothy) Morgan, Rochester. She was preceded in death by a son, Phillip J. Smith, who died April 26, 2009; a sister, Norma Fillinger; and four brothers, Lloyd and James Richard Morgan and infant brothers, Adrian and Wayne Morgan.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, with her nephew, the Rev Alan Robinson officiating.
