ROCHESTER – Joseph Michael Shidler, 19, Silver Lake and formerly of Rochester, passed away at 3:30 a.m. Feb. 18, 2014, at his residence surrounded by loved ones after a long 3-1/2-year battle with leukemia. He was born March 24, 1994, in Winamac to Chad Shidler and Angie Arndt. He was a 2012 graduate of Rochester High School. He was part owner with his brother of WhataLooker Lawn Care Service. He had been a member of the Fulton County 4-H, Relay for Life and had attended The Cross Church. He dearly enjoyed getting together with his family and fixing anything that needed to be repaired, and he was first to take on the work. He was a self-proclaimed collector of various interests which he took very seriously. He loved old cars and going to the classic car shows. He took great pride in his vintage truck and his newer one. He loved tinkering with his truck. In the summer, fishing was his hobby. He had the opportunity to meet Chip Foose in person and spend a vacation with his family in California. He enjoyed his trip to New York as part of the Sunshine Kids Organization in July of 2012. He was the one that kept the family laughing, and he loved his two nieces and two nephews so very much. Surviving are his mother and stepdad, Angie and Keith McNees, Silver Lake; his father and stepmom, Chad and Lisa Shidler, Rochester, a brother, Dustin A. (and spouse Amanda) Shidler, Rochester; a sister, Lacey N. Shidler, Silver Lake, and fiance, Tim Nance, Laketon; two nieces, Cady Shidler, Silver Lake, and Olivia Shidler, Rochester; two nephews, Noah and Riland Balchunas, Culver; three stepsisters: Mallie Stidham, Rochester; Carolyn McNees, Warsaw; Helen (and spouse Eddie) Balchunas, Culver; four stepbrothers: Wyatt, Virgil and Morgan Stidham, all of Rochester, and Dakota McNees, Warsaw; grandparents, Charlotte and Robert Massey, Les Arndt and Lorelei Duca, all of Rochester; stepgrandparents, Bert and Norma Cramer, Culver; and several aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Michael Shidler; grandfather, Edward Duca; great-grandparents, Joe and Betty Singleton, and Edna and Woodrow Shidler; and stepgrandmother, Mary McNees Sturgill. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home, Rochester, with the Rev. Scott Yoder officiating. Burial is in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Rochester.
