NAPPANEE – James L. Slabaugh, 63, of 402 Northwood Circle, Nappanee, died at 1:02 p.m. Feb. 6, 2012, in Lakeland Loving Care Center, Milford, after an extended illness. He had been admitted to the nursing home Jan. 11.
He was born March 1, 1948, in Elkhart, to Lowell R. and June L. Haines Slabaugh. On May 25, 1985, he married Mary J. Knobel, who died in 1991.
He was a lifetime Nappanee resident. He had been a janitor at Coppes Kitchens for many years and attended Northwood Chapel. Surviving are his mother, June L. Slabaugh, Nappanee; a daughter, Tammy Jo (and spouse Terry Witcher) Francis, Bristol; three brothers: Russell Dean (and spouse Peggy) Slabaugh, Lake Zurich, Ill.; Steve Slabaugh, Nappanee; and Michael (and spouse Shirley) Slabaugh, Hindman, Ky.; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, with the Rev. Larry Pletcher, pastor of Northwood Chapel, officiating. Burial will be in South Union Cemetery.
