MENTONE - James D. Mikel, 63, of 227 E. High St., Atwood, died at 5:58 a.m. Nov. 20, 2007, in his residence.

He was born Feb. 18, 1944, in Warsaw, to Everett and Arissa Hodges Mikel. On Feb. 8, 1964, in Etna Green, he married Patricia Ann Mathews, who died Aug. 21, 2007.

He was a fabrication engineer at WEFAB, Warsaw, and a member of the MS Society, Warsaw. He was a Mentone High School graduate and completed several technical courses. He was noted as being a lifetime learner. He was a helicopter mechanic in the U.S. Army.

Surviving are a daughter, Anita (and spouse James Joseph) Poyser, Atwood; three sons: Mathew A. (and spouse Tammy) Mikel, Mentone; Mark A. Mikel, Atwood; and Ben J. (and spouse Marcy) Mikel, Warsaw; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; six brothers: Steven (and spouse Nancy) Mikel, Farmington Hills, Mich.; Timothy Mikel, Warsaw; Thomas (and spouse Deb) Mikel, David (and spouse Wanda) Mikel, Joseph (and spouse Marcia) Mikel and Seth (and spouse Julie) Mikel, all of Etna Green.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Pilgrims Rest Primitive Baptist Church, Etna Green, with Elder Tommy Sarber officiating. Burial will be in Wooden Cemetery (Harrison Center Cemetery), Etna Green, with military graveside rites by members of American Legion, Warsaw.

Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone, and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.
