COLUMBIA CITY - Hugh D. Fiandt, 90, of Warsaw, died at 7:15 p.m. Dec. 15, 2009, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.
He was born June 6, 1919, in Wolcottville, to Thurlow and Gladys Wolf Fiandt. In 1945, he married M. Jacqueline Weber, who died March 19, 1982. On Jan. 8, 1985, he married Hazel C. Taulbee Jetmore, who survives.
He had been a resident at Miller's Merry Manor since April 2008. He graduated from Wolcottville High School and attended Purdue University. He sang in the Purdue Glee Club. In 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving in the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged in November 1945. He lived in Fort Wayne until 1980 when he moved to Tippecanoe Lake. He lived in Florida for two years before returning to Warsaw in 2000. He worked at International Harvester, was an insurance agent from 1948 until his retirement and owned Blaising & Fiandt Insurance. He was a member of Sol D Bayless Lodge 359 F&AM.; Scottish Rite; Mizpah Shrine, of which he sang in the Shrine Chanters for 35 years; American Legion Post 253, North Webster; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, Fort Wayne; and Central Lions Club, Fort Wayne, for 42 years, serving as president from 1976-77.
Also surviving are four children, David (and spouse Beverly) Fiandt and Don (and spouse Connie) Fiandt, all of Fort Wayne; Debbie (and spouse Jack) Rodenbeck, Fremont; and Doug (and spouse Heather) Fiandt, Warsaw; two stepsons, Donald (and spouse Sheila) Jetmore, Columbia City, and Timothy Jetmore, Warsaw; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Margaret Fuller McBride, Fort Wayne.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Burial will be private Monday at Greenlawn Memorial Park,
