BOURBON – Gregory L. Carswell, 58, of 11750 Gumwood Road, Bourbon, died at 7 a.m. July 14, 2011, in his residence, in the care of his family. He fought a courageous four-year battle with cancer.
He was born April 4, 1953, in Plymouth, to Loren R. and Susanna R. Burroughs Carswell, who survive in Culver. On June 30, 1990, he married Rebecca L. Eyrich, who survives.
A lifetime resident of Marshall County, he was a maintenance worker at Marshall Count Buildings and Grounds. He was a 1971 graduate of Culver Community Schools and attended Bourbon First United Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee. He was involved in community activities, serving on the Marshall County 4-H Fair Board and as past president of the fair board in 2010. He enjoyed watching Riley and Bryce show 4-H Dairy steers at the fair and Indiana State Fair. He was always helping kids at the fair. He loved attending auctions and working with Marshall County’s best auctioneers,  Markley’s Triple M Auction and Ball Auction Services, and driving antique John Deere tractors. He was an IHSAA sports official for 25 years including volleyball, basketball and baseball and a member of the Culver Young Farmers as well as the Marshall County Dairy Association.
Also surviving are two children, Riley Dale and Bryce Gregory Carswell; and three sisters: Rae Anne and Karen Carswell and Rhonda Anderson; his mother-in-law, Shirley Eyrich; three brothers-in-law: Ernest Eyrich, Richard (and spouse Tina) Eyrich and Douglas (and spouse Barbara) Eyrich; a sister-in-law, Marcia (and spouse Craig) Spaid; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Bourbon Bible Church with the Rev. Stormy Scherer-Berry officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Bourbon.
Calling is from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, 115 S. Main St., Bourbon.
