NORTH WEBSTER – Frank Joseph Winters, 74, North Webster, passed away at 11:15 p.m. Dec. 8, 2013, in St. Joseph Hospital, Fort Wayne. He was born Jan. 2, 1939, in Huntington, W.Va., to Mike and Sophie Kurtz Winters. On Nov. 1, 1958, in Eastland, W.Va., he married Janice L. Thompson, who survives. He grew up in West Virginia, attended public school there and in 1979 received his GED from Wawasee High School. He was a United States Marine veteran. He moved to the North Webster area 49 years ago from West Virginia, and retired in 2005 from CMI in Plymouth after 10 years as a truck driver. He was formerly employed at Monsanto in Ligonier, Syracuse Rubber, JC Pontoon in North Webster, Flex Steel in New Paris, and served as a deputy for the North Webster Police Dept. He was a member of the Country Bible Church and the American Legion Post 253, both in North Webster. Also surviving are two sons, Frank (and spouse Sonia) Winters and James Winters, all of North Webster; five grandchildren: Nicholas Winters, Nichole Helman, Madison Winters, Chase Murphy and Austin Murphy; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Lee Winters, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters: Sophie Winters, Annie Simmons and Mary Javis; four brothers: Mike, Johnny, Nick and Steve Winters. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Owen Family Funeral Home, Ind. 13 and CR 500N, North Webster, with Pastor Myron Drent of the church officiating. Burial is in Mock Addition of the North Webster Cemetery with military graveside services by the North Webster American Legion Post 253.
