NORTH MANCHESTER - Fae Freed, 89, of Silver Lake, and formerly of Sidney, died at 7:20 a.m. Sept. 16, 2007, in Parkview Whitley Hospital, Columbia City.

She was born May 3, 1918, in Whitley County, to Landy R. and Cora Henemyer Shaffer. On Feb. 19, 1939, she married Glen B. Freed, who died Sept. 14, 1980.

She worked at Stumps Printing, South Whitley; Heckman Bindery, North Manchester, and Grant's Dept. Store, Warsaw. She was a member of Eel River Community Church of the Brethren, Silver Lake, the Ladies Aid of the church and was a Sunday school and Bible teacher. She was a 1937 South Whitley High School graduate. Moving to Pierceton from Jackson Township in 1967, she moved to Sidney in 1977, and later to Silver Lake.

Surviving are a son, Rex Freed, Montpelier, Ohio; a daughter, Glenda Ray, Silver Lake; three brothers, Gene Shaffer, Huntington; Joe Shaffer, Laud; and Jerry Shaffer, Columbia City; a sister, Genevieve Kneller, Columbia City; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Eel River Community Church of the Brethren, Silver Lake, with Pastor Harriet Finney officiating. Burial will be in Ulrey Memorial Cemetery, Silver Lake.

Calling is from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, North Manchester, and one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.
