SYRACUSE - Ellen Elizabeth Hardin Walker, 99, of Union County, Ill., died at 12:30 a.m. March 29, 2008, in Miller's Merry Manor Nursing Home, Syracuse.

She was born Nov. 30, 1908, in Cobden, Ill., to Herbert and Estella Vancil Hardin. On Jan. 27, 1929, in Anna, Ill., she married Willard C. Walker, who preceded her in death.

She graduated from Cobden High School and attended Southern Illinois University. She earned her LPN in 1956, while working at the Anna State Hospital, and continued working in the nursing field until she was 73. On Feb. 18, 1927, she was initiated into the Eastern Star Chapter, Cobden, where she was the oldest living member. She was a lifetime member of Cobden First Presbyterian Church. She lived in Union County for more than 80 years and farmed near Anna.

Surviving are four children: Willard (and spouse LaNora) Walker, Cobden; Lindell (and spouse Linda) Walker, Lake of Egypt, Marion, Ill.; Sandra Pender, Marion, Ill.; and Kay (and spouse Jack) Dabler, North Webster; 19 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daugthers.

Services will be at Rendelman & Hileman Funeral Home, Cobden.

Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home, Harris Chapel, Syracuse, is in charge of local arrangements.
