E. LaVerne Sommers-Marks, 93, of Hanna, passed away June 5, 2011.
She was born May 13, 1918, in Washington, D.C., to Guy and Nina Stinchcomb Cunningham. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harvey Sommers, and her second husband, Edward Marks.
She was a fourth-grade teacher for 28 years, teaching at Union Township, Mill Creek, Hanna and Wanatah schools. She was a member of First Lutheran Church of Hanna, the Ladies Aid at Church and the Indiana Teachers Association.
Surviving are three sons, Dr. Edward (and spouse Marilyn) Sommers, LaPorte; Ronald (and spouse Jeanne) Sommers, Hanna; and Dr. Richard (and spouse Sharon) Sommers, Silver Lake; two stepdaughters, Judy Bechinski, Hanna, and Jean Burich, Ohio; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a stepbrother, Robert Cunningham. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Cunningham; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Sommers; and stepson, Richard Marks.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church of Hanna, 15 E. Wheeler St. Burial will be in Hanna Cemetery.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Wanatah Funeral Chapel, 309 N. Main St, Wanatah.
