Doris Mardella Julien, 77, of 545 S. Circle Drive E., Warsaw, went home to be with the Lord at 10 p.m. Sept. 5, 2009, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.
She was born March 27, 1932, in North Manchester. She was the sixth of seven children born to Robert Earl and Beulah Louise Myers Briner. On Aug. 21, 1953, she married Tom Julien, who survives.
She received the Lord as her Savior at an early age, and during her teenage years dedicated her life to the Lord for Christian service. She graduated from Central High School, Fort Wayne, in 1950, and Bob Jones University in 1954, where she met her husband. After marriage she taught from 1954-58, in the elementary grades in the Monroe Township Elementary School, and kindergarten in New Haven, while assisting her husband in establishing the Grace Brethren Church, Fort Wayne.
In October 1958, they left for France, serving under Grace Brethren International Missions. After language study in Geneva, Switzerland, and ministry in Grenoble, France, they acquired a 14th century castle in Burgundy, which became a center for encounter and discussion; there they worked in evangelism, teaching and church-planting. She was a member of Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church. She returned to the United States in 1986, after 28 years as a missionary in France, continuing to serve on the mission's home office staff, and also helped to coordinate the European Ministry Team. They returned to France in 2000 where they worked in Paris for three years in student ministries.
Also surviving are two daughters, Becky Jean (and spouse the Rev. David) Schwan, Birmingham, England, and Jacqueline Sue (and spouse Jeff) Schram, Winona Lake; a son, Terry Lee Julien, Winona Lake; five grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Ann (and spouse Duwain) Meyers, Fort Wayne. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and a sister.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church, 1200 Kings Highway, Winona Lake, with Pastors Bruce Barlow and Kip Cone officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, and one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church.
