NAPPANEE - Dale Hanson Gwin, 82, of 260 E. Broad St., Nappanee, died at 2 a.m. July 15, 2009, in Elkhart General Hospital, after a short illness.
He was born May 9, 1927, in Nappanee, to Wilyard H. and Mary Ann McGowen Gwin. On Sept. 1, 1946, in Nappanee, he married Roberta Hively, who survives.
A lifetime Nappanee area resident, he was a 1945 Nappanee High School graduate and a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean War. He was a farmer, a self-employed salesman and most recently worked for McCormick Creek Golf Course, Nappanee. He was a lifetime member of Nappanee United Methodist Church and former president of Nappanee Jaycee's.
Also surviving are a daughter, Mary Ann (and spouse Dan) Baker-Pierson, Kissimmee, Fla.; a grandson; a sister, Ruth Heemstra, South Bend; and three brothers: Max (and spouse Betty) Gwin, Nappanee; Ross (and spouse Dee) Gwin, St. Cloud, Fla.; and Gene (and spouse Frances), Orangevale, Calif. He was preceded in death by a brother.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Nappanee United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Harrold officiating. Military rites by members of Nappanee American Legion will follow the service
Calling is from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.
