Amos E. Foor
AKRON – Amos E. Foor, 96, of Rochester, died at 4 a.m. April 10, 2011, in his residence.
He was born Jan. 30, 1915, in Fulton County, to Clark and Lucia Stinson Foor. On July 27, 1943, in Rochester, he married Wanita K. Stoelting, who died Nov. 7, 2003.
He had worked at Safe Way Steel, Rochester, and was a fourth-generation farmer. He and Wanita had farmed for more than 40 years on the family farm, which was established by his great-grandfather, William Foor, in 1862. He was a lifetime member of Athens United Methodist Church. He joined Gideon’s International in 1951 and was a charter member of the Fulton County Gideon’s Camp. He was one of the oldest Gideon’s in this area. He was a U.S. Army veteran, receiving a Purple Heart while serving in the Philippines during World War II. He graduated from Akron High School in 1933. He enjoyed being outdoors and spending time with his family.
Surviving are a daughter, Jenean (and spouse Eldon) Rager, North Manchester; a son, Edward (and spouse Roberta) Foor, Rochester; six grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be at 10:30 am. Wednesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron, with Pastor Terry Marker officiating. Burial will be in Rochester IOOF Cemetery with graveside military rites by members of the LeRoy Shelton American Legion Post 36 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1343 Honor Guard, Rochester.
